Quit Pushing Things Away
A lesson brought to me through a clothing subscription box

The request
A few years ago, I asked the universe for a wardrobe that delights me, and that I feel really good in. Then I kind of forgot about it.
I was in the process of trying to update my wardrobe. And by update it, I mean that I was trying to figure out what works for me. I’m 5’1”, slender but curvy, with short legs. I don’t know what to do with that, and honestly, I never have.
As always, I followed the energy, which led me to a wardrobe designer, Jen from Everyday Style, who helped me figure out what was, and wasn’t, working in my closet. I had no idea there was such a thing as curvy petite pants! She gave me a lot of great pointers that helped me figure out what I needed to be looking for. And it helped tremendously.
But I still had trouble actually finding the things I was looking for. And I still wasn’t sure how to go beyond the style basics. (Can I wear wide-leg pants?)
Then I heard about Short Story, a clothing subscription box for petites. I felt into whether it was for me, and got a yes, which basically just means it felt good. (A no would have come as a tightness in my gut. Or, more likely, just disinterest.)
I ordered my first Short Story box and was pretty happy. I found several pieces that worked for me. I continued to get boxes delivered every few months for about a year, but finally, I decided I had enough new clothes, and cancelled my subscription. This was several months ago.
Last week, I got a notice that my next Short Story box had shipped. I admit I was annoyed. I’d set my account to “Let me schedule my own boxes”, which meant they would no longer be shipped automatically, yet one was on its way.
Spirit is really good with tech
Now, in Short Story’s defense, spirit is really good with technology. Spirit is energy, tech is energy, even we are mostly energy, when you get right down to the subatomic core of our cells. It’s all just energy.
I’ve had spirit manipulate my tech dozens of times over the years, always for my benefit (although it doesn’t often feel like it in the moment). Like the time I was trying to make a plane reservation from D.C. to Chicago and got a pop-up on the United Airlines website that said, “Sorry, we don’t fly between those two cities.” Uh…pretty sure you do, dozens of times a day.
Weird things like that always catch my attention. In that case, I held off making the plane reservation and, sure enough, that trip got cancelled soon after. I was so glad I’d been roadblocked.
So, I feel certain that this little glitch wasn’t Short Story’s fault. My guides were manipulating this, because there were two much bigger things going on here. A lesson, for one. But also, a powerful flow of manifestation energy that I was getting in the way of.
The vision
The evening before I was notified that my box had shipped, I had a small vision. I call them ‘small’ because they often come to me like movement in the shadows. Hard to make out.
I sensed myself swinging something like a baseball bat, but back and forth kind of frantically, as if trying to fight off little somethings coming at me from all directions.
Two things popped into my head. (Well, three, but unless you’ve read my Feral Warriors series and know what a draden is, the third isn’t going to resonate.)
First, that I’ve had more than one intuitive tell me, over the years, that I’m a lot more gifted than I think I am. That I have information and energy coming at me all the time, but so fast and furiously that I don’t know how to catch hold of it. And so I mostly hold it at bay.
Second, I’ve heard, through many current channelers, that the higher realms are sending humanity gifts of energy, right and left, to help us rise in vibration and discover the power that resides in each of us. (I really don’t know what that means.)
But I thought of these as I viewed this vision. I grabbed my pendulum, which is an easy way to get yes/no answers from my team, these days.
“Is what I’m fighting off any danger to me?” I asked, and got a strong ‘no’, which told me that the vision was probably showing me that I was defending myself from something that I needed to be allowing in.
Some clarity
The next morning, as I channeled for myself, I asked for some clarity about that vision.
My guides said, “There are so many things coming to you now. We just ask that you stay open, remain curious, do not fight anything, then relax and enjoy. Know that all that you seek is on its way, and far more than you can imagine. Just allow.”
Nice, right? And then I remembered the email I’d received only moments before from Short Story, and the slightly annoyed email that I’d just shot off to them in response.
The universe (via Short Story) was sending me a box of clothes carefully curated just for me and I was pushing it away. Whoops.
When the box arrived? Perfection. There wasn’t a single thing in that box that I didn’t love. The outfits filled holes in my wardrobe that I hadn’t realized that I had, and gave my look a fresh style that I’d never have managed on my own.
How did this happen? Did I manifest that perfect box of clothes?
Yes? But not actively. At least not the way I’ve been trying to manifest things.
After that initial request for a wardrobe that delights me, I’ve really just been thanking the universe every time something that I’m wearing delights me, or when I find something to buy that I’ve been looking for.
No vision boards, no visualizing, no affirmations, no trying.
Yet, somehow, through my asking, and my appreciating, and my allowing, that manifestation flow began. The tap was turned on.
I have a feeling the universe will continue to bring me wardrobe items that will delight me, as long as I continue to allow, and don’t try to shut it down again, like I did when I cancelled my Short Story box.
Does this mean I can’t ever cancel my subscription? No, of course not. It’s all about following the energy. Which maybe I did last time, and maybe I didn’t. If I did follow the energy in cancelling it before, I feel certain it was for the purpose of this lesson.
And I’m sure that this lesson was about a lot more than just clothes, but what a cool way to bring it to my attention!
Now, I wonder where else I’ve been pushing things away without realizing it.
You’re getting messages, too
I want to leave you with one last thing. If you think your guides and angels aren’t sending you messages, like mine send me, it’s just because they haven’t found a way to get your attention. They’ll try in all kinds of ways – song lyrics, license plates, overheard conversations, words in your head — and once you notice, they’ll try that type of communication again.
At first, my guides caught my attention best through song lyrics and license plates. And at first, the meaning felt pretty nebulous. I’d swear that a song lyric was meant for me, but of course my logical mind would scoff at that. (Don’t try to logic it out. The universe is literally capable of anything.)
For example, many years ago, a gifted, but snarky, friend channeled the angels for me, and brought through a snarky message that hurt my feelings. I kind of expected the angels to just roll their eyes at me, like I felt they often did in those days.
Instead, as I listened to the radio later, at least four songs in a row had the lyrics, “I’m sorry!” I felt their regret so keenly, that it brought tears to my eyes. They hadn’t meant to hurt my feelings. They hadn’t meant their message to come through that way at all.
As I caught more and more messages in song lyrics, they became clearer to me. Several years later, four months after I left home, I finally listened to the lyrics of Keep Your Eyes Open by Need to Breathe. “If you never leave home, if you never let go, you’ll never make it to the great unknown.”
My guides had probably been trying to get me to pay attention to those lyrics for years – the tune was quite familiar to me by then — but when I finally heard them, the message felt incredibly personal.
Those words were a powerful validation that I was on the right path.
