First, let’s start at the beginning.
What is channeling?
Essentially, it’s the process of translating telepathic communication into words — communication from a source beyond the conscious mind, such as angels, spirit guides, higher self, or ascended masters. But everything is consciousness, so we can potentially channel anything. I’ve been having some pretty fabulous conversations with my body, lately.
So who are you channeling?
Most of the time, I channel Alexander, which is the name that my team in spirit has given me, a team that includes the Archangels, my higher self, my spirit guides, and others. Despite the name, they are a blend of divine masculine and divine feminine energies. Sometimes, the ‘voice’ that comes through is quite different, and I know I’ve tapped into another entity or collective.
Aren’t you worried that some bad entity might come through?
No, not at all. The Archangels have been with me from the beginning, and I have specifically requested that they be actively engaged whenever I channel or explore the non-physical in any way. If it’s not in my best interest, I’ll know, although it’s never been an issue. While I’m sure that lower vibrational entities exist, I’ve never given them any thought, which is probably why they’ve never come near me. (Well, that and the Archangels.) We draw to us what we focus on. Also, the more light we shine, the higher our vibration, the less we’re a vibrational match for lower vibrational entities. We literally exist in different dimensions.
You say you channel angels? Angels don’t sound like that!
This was my thought the first time I heard someone channel the Archangels. Angels wouldn’t talk in modern English!
I know, I know. Don’t judge. But I guess I expected the angels to talk like they do in the King James version of the bible. In Olde English, even though none of the books of the bible were originally written in English.
Again, channeling is simply translating telepathic communication into words. My words. If my native language was Slovenian, they’d be coming through in Slovenian. For most, if not all channelers, this translation happens at a level beyond conscious thought. I hear the words in my head. In my language. I’m completely unaware of how that’s happening.
Are you a trance channel?
No. I very much consider myself a conscious channel rather than a trance channel, which means I hear the words as they come through. I don’t go into a trance-like state.
How do you channel?
I channel in several different ways. Mostly, I channel through what’s often called automatic writing, where I put my fingers on the keyboard, close my eyes, and invite any entity or collective of the light to come through. Then I type the words as they come to me. I feel like I hear them a second before I type them, less time than it would take me to capture them if I were just listening and taking dictation.
Lately, though, I’ve been branching out into a couple of other types of channeling. One is verbally, which I mainly do for myself using my iPhone voice memo. The key is to not think about it, not engage with my mind, but instead let words flow out of my mouth, unchecked.
The other new way I’ve been channeling is best described as conversational. This started when Alexander asked me to create a list of questions for them to answer. They suggested that I try staying fully present during the channeling, an active participant in the conversation. And it worked! I love channeling this way and will probably do it a lot more going forward.
How do you know you’re not just making it all up?
I don’t, of course. Not entirely. But I’ve learned to trust, and to feel when the connection isn’t there. Usually, if that happens, it’s because I’m focused elsewhere, my mind busy on something else. And while I don’t always need my mind for channeling, exactly, I do have to be aligned with my higher self, with the higher energies. I need to be in the present moment. If I’m thinking about what I want for dinner, or what happened yesterday, I’m out of alignment and not connecting.
When I first started this, I was often convinced that I was making it up. But then I’d read what I’d typed, and think, “There is no way that I came up with that.” Over the years, I’ve learned to trust in this process. When wise and loving words come through my fingertips or out of my mouth — words I have not been ‘thinking’ — I know they’re from a source beyond my human mind.
As with all things connected with the non-physical, belief is key. To paraphrase Henry Ford, whether you believe you can or you believe you can’t, you will be right. Fully aligning to the frequency of those who wish to come through me absolutely requires me to set aside my doubts.
Can I channel, too?
Absolutely. Those telepathic messages are coming to all of us, all the time. Our higher selves, guides, and angels are communicating with us all the time. The problem is, our minds are often so full of human-focused thoughts, like worrying about the future, or judgements, or mental rehashing of the past, that we don’t hear them. Or we ignore them or discount them as just our own thoughts.
The best way to begin to attune to these messages is by being still and quieting your mind, even for a few minutes at a time. Meditate! And then either sit in the quiet, or get your laptop or a pen and paper. See what comes. Maybe you’ll find yourself getting wise and loving thoughts that don’t feel like your own. Or maybe you’ll get feelings or knowings, or see images in your mind’s eye. The important things are to ask for assistance from your unseen helpers, believe that it’s possible, and then just see what happens without any expectations.
